My leather jacket popped its poofu valve the other day, after an estimated 120,000kms (75,000 miles in the old money}
I have already replaced it with another one, but was thinking that I only paid $160 about 4 years ago, so I did get what I paid for.
Things just arent built to last any more.
just wondering what kind of wear are you guys getting? I dont mean time wise, as I have jackets from the eighties and nineties, but wear, and mileage.

I wear a Cortech jacket. It is NOT leather, but kinda like a nylon material, and is not as heavy as a leather jacket. It also has shoulder, elbow, and back pads which Cortech claims will protect you from injury and road burns should you go down.It comes in different colors [I bought the dark grey] and has white florescent markings so you can be seen when riding at night. It is water proof, has zipper vents for flow thru ventilation in the warm weather, and a zip in liner for cold weather riding.[I've used it in 10*F temps and was comfortable] I paid $200 [USD] for it.It is my second Cortech jacket. My old jacket lasted over ten years until the zipper broke, but I couldn't find anyone that had a heavy enough sewing machine to replace the zipper. So I bought a new jacket. You can go on line to the Cortech website to view these jackets. So there's another option for ya,if you're interested!! Dave!!!

I've got an original Schott Racer jacket that's done >80,000miles. It's been up the road a couple of times, soaked in beer and generally abused. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Almost 6 years with my Triumph jacket (forgot what style it is) but I don't always wear it , have two others which I use pending weather etc so can't give you kms mate. It is wearing well though but needs constant cleaning due to the light coloured arm leather.

About 1.5 years ago i went to the L.A. area outlet for leatherup.com and spent about a 1/2 hour looking at all the jackets and was about to walk out when i decided to go back in and try a jacket i never liked. It was the only one i didn't try on because i just never liked the style. One of those stereotypical 50's style biker jackets with the angled zipper. I had been looking all over and was sick of seeing $400 tags on anything i remotely liked. I walked back in in a sort of "i give up" to try that jacket because it was cheap at $90. Once i tried it on and started checking out all the features i realized it had a lot of things i liked about it. The salesman said i'll give it to you for $40 and i said sold. I've been totally happy with it and it's sturdy as hell so i don't see myself outliving it. It's got something like 6 or 7 pockets including a perfect little one at the base that fits my garage door opener perfectly. The many pockets were a big deciding factor, as was the huge size heavy duty zipper. I've had to replace zippers before but this one is unlikely to screw up. Seemed stiff and first but it broke in eventually. Now that i have had this jacket for a time, if i knew what i know now when I walked into that store i would have paid the $90 for it happily and probably a lot more. Best deal on a leather jacket ever. Very thick and warm too. If u want a jacket that will last, is dirt cheap, warm as it gets, has tons of storage and zippers that will outlast you, try one. If you can get past the look (i like the look now) you can't beat it. Link

I bought the ixon opium leather jacket, not sure how it will last, but I was in a hurry when I bought it as it was pissing down rain and I was cold and the range of jackets was limited.
it seems to be a well made jacket and has all the functions that i like, a few pockets only, vents for summer, removable lining, snap collar and zipped cuffs. time will tell I suppose.
i have seen Leethals jacket and the Triumph gear is good gear alright, and if I had been anywhere near a Triumph dealership I may well of purchased something.
But the MV Agusta and Royal Enfield dealership was what got me, after visiting the Kawasaki dealership, the KTM dealership and the Harley shop, like I said the range was limited.

had a champion leather jacket for over 40 years, still like new unfortunately it has shrunk. now have one I got off ebay, for a $189 sounds cheap, but is actually a good jacket nearly as good as the champion.
I think it is made from a recycled camel but it is well made

I've got three leather jackets - all Triumph branded ones bought at knockdown prices at the nec or ally pally. I've found Triumph jackets are fantastic quality. All were purchased before I ended up back on a Triumph, it was the quality I was impresed with rather than the label because at the time of purchase(s) I wasn't really considering a Triumph.

I am a big fan of leather jackets and pants too. There is a good reason why race suits are made from leather and why it is more popular than Kevlar....the ability for it to slide should you have an off!
Kevlar and other material will grab the road surface causing you to tumble which can and will lead to broken limbs....the leather has good durability too...so its leather for me! ..just my opinion.

Definitely agreed. The type of leather is critical as well, though. The best most durable leather for a slide is kangaroo leather, then horse hide and deer hide as ties for close second. Cow hide is a distant third. Lambskin and goat leather is junk - you're better with waxed cotton then these.

That's the way I heard it too Ed...you can see the gear the boys on the super bikes wear and the resulting scars on the leather when they have an off....usually they are hopping along too!!!...maybe that's why the Kangaroo skin is preferred?...Kangaroo?...hopping?.....ah, nevermind.lol. ...I watched a documentary on motorcycles by Henry Cole recently and that was covered. I don't know what leather my jacket is made from??its very heavy and probably cow hide I'm thinking....its made in Pakistan like a lot of them are nowadays.

I have been trying to find the best option for the leather jacket for quite some time and I am still not sure what to buy. Revzille already disappointed me so cant find a quality leather jacket for the bike. Hopefully, this thread will help out.

You are probably absolutely right.
My problem would be to ride to my local pub wearing leather pants. It's not a biker bar but I would feel uncomfortable.

I think you're right. I have tried these and never been able to come up with any solution to what can be the best option to make my riding experience the best of all. I've recently discovered this new brand they are using buffalo leather to produce special designs for motorcycle riders. I bet it should be helpful for you too. Here is the Link: Link

If you can find them, Triumph have good quality leather jackets, often made by AlpineStar and other Italian companies such as Dianese.

Thanks Lee.

Being normal at age 65, is a difficult thing to define, but being a bit overweight, dragging one leg, half blind, and reduced hearing, I consider normal, at least in my case

@ Ray, I found a photo of you with a large fish, in one of your local newspapers, and I can reveal that I was as surprised, about your looks, as you where about mine.

I can reveal though that I consider me being the pretty one, of the two of us.
